Fire and water are the two things that destroy masonry. Both get designed for here

An outdoor fireplace is not a decorative stack of stone. The firebox needs firebrick and refractory mortar, because standard mortar fails under repeated heat. The flue has to be sized to the opening or it smokes back at you. The crown has to overhang and drip clear, or water runs down the face and takes the mortar joints with it over a few winters.

The same failures show up in chimney work. Most leaks blamed on a roof are actually a cracked crown, failed flashing, or joints that stopped shedding water years ago. We diagnose before we quote — a repoint won’t fix a chimney that needs a rebuild, and a rebuild is money wasted on one that just needs a crown and flashing.

What we build and repair

Outdoor fireplaces

Full masonry fireplaces with firebrick boxes, proper flues, and a hearth and surround built to match the house.

Fire pits

Built-in and freestanding, wood or gas, with heat-rated liners and seating walls that tie into the patio.

Chimney repointing & rebuilds

Raking out failed joints and repointing with matched mortar, or rebuilding above the roofline where the structure is beyond saving.

Crowns, caps & flashing

The three things behind most chimney leaks. Usually the cheapest fix and almost always the right first step.

What your chimney is trying to tell you

What fireplace and chimney work costs with us

The widest range of anything we do — a crown repair and a full outdoor fireplace aren’t the same order of magnitude. We quote on site, free, after getting up and actually looking at it.

What moves the number

No hourly billing. Every quote we write is a fixed price for a defined scope. If we find something genuinely unexpected once we open up the ground, we stop and talk to you before anything changes.

How the job actually runs

Four stages, and you know what’s happening at each one.

Step 1

Call or send details

Tell us roughly what you want and where you are. We ask a few questions and book a visit, normally within 2 to 3 business days.

Step 2

On-site measure and quote

We measure, check the drainage, the access and what's under the existing surface, then send a fixed written price — usually within 48 hours.

Step 3

Schedule, permits and prep

You get a start date in writing. We pull any permits, call PA One Call 811 for utility markouts, and protect the areas we're working around.

Step 4

Build, clean up and walk through

We build it, haul everything away, and walk the finished job with you. You get your written warranty and care instructions before we leave.

Work we've finished

Real jobs, our crews, this region.

Why we're not the cheapest quote you'll get

And exactly where the difference goes.

The base, not just the surface

Excavated to subgrade and compacted in lifts. It's the slowest part of the job, the part nobody sees, and the only reason the finished work stays flat.

Our own crews, start to finish

No subcontracted chain and no rotating faces. The people who quote your job are the people who build it.

A fixed price and a written warranty

One number for a defined scope, agreed before anyone breaks ground, backed by terms you get on paper with the invoice.

Materials chosen to last, not to win a bid

Rated pavers, correct reinforcement, real drainage stone and proper sealers. Specifying down is how a cheaper quote gets to be cheaper.

Written warranty on every job

You get it on paper with the invoice, not as a promise someone made in a driveway.

Questions we get asked

If yours isn’t here, call and ask. We’d rather answer it now than have you find out mid-project.

Do I need a permit for an outdoor fireplace?

Usually yes, and setback requirements from property lines and structures vary by township across the counties we serve. Gas connections need a licensed plumber and a separate inspection. We confirm requirements with your municipality before quoting so nothing stalls halfway through.

Wood gives you the real thing — heat, sound, smell — and costs less to build. Gas gives you instant on and off with no ash, no wood storage, and no smoke complaints from neighbours, which matters on a tight city lot. Gas costs more up front because of the line and the inspection. Most people know which one they want within about a minute of being asked.

If the bricks themselves are sound and only the mortar has failed, repointing is the answer and it’s dramatically cheaper. If bricks are spalling and shedding faces, the stack is out of plumb, or the structure has shifted, repointing is putting good mortar between bad bricks. We’ll get up there and show you photographs of what we found.

Often it isn’t. A cracked crown, failed step flashing, a missing cap, or saturated masonry will all put water into a house and look exactly like a roof leak. Those are usually the cheaper fixes, too — worth ruling out before anyone reroofs.

In most cases. Reclaimed brick, matched new stock, and colour-matched mortar get very close, and on historic properties the mortar mix matters as much as the brick — hard modern mortar on soft old brick causes damage. We show you a sample panel before committing to the full job.

Masonry needs temperature to cure. We work into the cold using heated enclosures and cold-weather mortar, but sustained freezing stops the work. If you have an active leak we can make a temporary weather-tight repair now and schedule the permanent fix for the first workable stretch.
